Enbridge Gas Ohio Seeks Bill Increase
About $8 More per Month for the Average Consumer
Enbridge Gas Ohio has asked the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to approve an increase in natural gas charges for consumers across the state.
According to Enbridge, if its proposal is approved, consumers could see an average natural gas rate increase by about $7.60 per month (approximately 8%).
What’s Changing?
Enbridge is proposing to increase the fixed monthly charge on your bill.
This charge:
- Must be paid every month, even if you use little or no gas
- Cannot be reduced by conserving energy
- Makes up a larger share of your total bill
Enbridge is also proposing changes to certain riders (additional charges on your bill).
OCC Concerns
OCC is focused on affordability and the impact of rising utility costs.
Many Ohio households are already struggling with higher costs for food, housing and healthcare and rising energy bills. Enbridge’s proposal raises concerns because:
- Fixed charges increase bills regardless of usage
- They hit low-income households and seniors the hardest
- Consumers cannot lower these costs by using less energy
No family should have to choose between paying a utility bill and buying essentials like food or medicine.
